Rebonding 101: Everything You Need To Know About Rebonding Your Hair

If you feel like changing your overall look, then changing your hairstyle is a great start! This is the part where you choose from so many different hair services in the salon – should you get a bold hair color? Should you get a big chop? Or should you go for smoothening treatments?

You have a lot of options for switching your hairstyle, but to help you narrow them down, if you have wavy or curly hair with tons of frizzy strands, then there is one great option for you: Hair Rebonding. But is rebonding really for you? Keep reading to find out what it is, what it does to your hair, and how to take care of rebonded hair!

What is Rebonding?

Rebonding

Rebonding is a chemical process done in salons wherein your hair’s natural structure is altered with chemicals and heat to give you straight hair. This technique is all about breaking your hair’s natural bonds and rearranging them to make up a new hair texture – straight, sleek, and shiny.

So regardless of how curly, wavy, unruly, or frizzy your hair is, hair rebonding can actually make a difference by giving you pin-straight hair! Keep in mind that rebonding is a long process – it can take between 3 to 8 hours, depending on the length and texture of your hair. Although 3 to 8 hours of sitting and waiting in the salon is very much worth it if you get permanent straight hair for the next 6 to 7 months - possibly even longer (depending on your aftercare)!

Benefits of Rebonding

Sleek, Straight Hair

Sleek, Straight Hair

One of the best benefits of rebonding your hair is that it gives you permanent results – at least for 6 months if you take proper care of your hair! No matter how curly your hair is, this smoothening treatment will surely give you the straight and smooth hair you’ve been wanting.

Manageable Hair

Since you’ll be having permanent straight hair for the next couple of months, there is no doubt that there will be a great improvement in your hair’s manageability. Frizzy strands? We don’t know her! Rebonding your hair will keep your hair straight and easy to manage, even in windy and humid environments!

Quicker Hairstyling Time

There are days when we love taking our time in getting our hair done, but there are also days when we just want to fix our hair in less than 10 minutes. Well, say no more, rebonding your hair will definitely quicken your hairstyling time! With permanent straight hair, there is no need to iron your hair to make it straight. So not only does getting a rebond speed up your hairstyling process, but it also protects your hair from any damage caused by heat styling tools!

What to Do After Getting Your Hair Rebonded?

After getting your hair rebonded, you wouldn’t want to put your time, money, and sleek locks to waste, right? So here are a couple of things to remember once you get home after a long hair treatment at the salon:

Do Not Do Anything That Bends Your Hair

Avoid putting anything on your hair that could bend the structure of your newly rebonded hair. Wearing hair ties, hair clips, and hair claws can only mark a dent in your hair – no matter how loose you wear these hair accessories!

Do Not Get Your Hair Wet For The First 72 Hours

Post hair rebonding treatment, you will most likely be advised to not get your hair wet for the first 72 hours. So as much as possible, avoid doing anything that makes you sweat a lot and avoid places that could get your hair wet! Although once you can take a shower, it’s best to do a final rinse on your hair with cold water to close the cuticles of your hair.

Use Products for Rebonded Hair

Since rebonding is a chemical treatment, there lies a risk of damaging your strands. But of course, this can be prevented with the right set of products! Rebonded hair requires a special type of hair care products – they should be gentle, nourishing, and formulated for chemically treated hair. By using these types of products, you would be able to properly maintain your rebonded hair, allowing you to enjoy its benefits for a longer period of time! Not sure what products to use?
